Who makes the Sandstone Toy Hauler?

I've heard of a Sandstorm TH by Forest River.

On the Lippert website under "aftermarket patio system", it states that patio systems are only available to OEMs for new installation, parts replacement and warranty replacement. Has anybody ever successfully purchased a patio kit as a retrofit?

Early on many of us made our own ramp cables and installed them without problem. But it seems some manufacturers are now claiming that their ramps are not designed for it unless it came from the manufacturer with them installed. Could be a way for more sales or a way to deny warranty claims, but do be aware of the after market installs.

I know that some people have taken them off of their haulers because they don't use them. Maybe someone has one on the forum?!?

It's all about the liability. And marketing sales of higher priced units. There's a lot of homemade ones out there. Just find out how much the oem ramp is rated for, do not exceed it and you'll be fine.

If you don't want to do the cable mod you can simply use a couple jack stands under the ramp.

I made one last spring and we love it. I was afraid to do the cable support thing because most ramps are rated for a support across the entire contact of the ramp and with the cables, the center would be unsupported. as an alternative, we bought these BAL C-Series Jackand fastened to a wooden "I" beam made out of a 2x4 and a couple of 1x4's. This supports the ramp across the entire width. Next I made the railings out of pvc electrical conduit which I painted white and the fabric out of a dog kennel mesh sun shade. I did not want to drill holes in the ramp for fear of water infiltration. My solution was to use a 1x4 base for the railings which is simply "C" clamped in place. I made a stair way up to the ramp and have now built a canopy over the top. All of this will fit easily in the garage with room to haul an atv, bicycle and scooter which I have done many times.

I am sure that this would be much easier to understand with pics but unfortunately, I have not taken any. I will be happy to do so and share when the weather warms a little (2 degrees right now).

I've always thought about doing something with my ramp too. Without a strong supported railing I'd be afraid I'd just step right off the back and eat it. I'm usually at the beach or the Dez so I just leave the ramp down. Not unless theres bad weather.

Because of all your posts we decided to change our purchase to an Eclipse Attitude 21 SAG with the patio rail already installed.
