Locating Holding Tank Valve Locations.

I just finished locating one of those cable operated black tank dump valves and removing it. Ya know it kinda looks like Zorro has been under there. :h

So the other two valves are getting too stiff for my liking and I would like to apply some lube to the slide as discussed here before. Anyone done this and has a recommended spiffy way of knowing where to cut a hole in the under belly and be on the money. I am thinking of starting out with "peep holes", but that sounds kinda crude.

any thoughts?
  • good ideas. So far it looks like taking one side down and giving it a shot that way

    thanks

I just contacted Crossroads and asked for a frame/tank/suspension schematic and they were glad to send it to me. Thanks, Tab Oswald, of Crossroads' Cruiser division! I don't have a Crossroads, but they're on my "list" for further consideration down the road. Call your mfr and see if they'll do the same.

  • Thetford makes a drain valve lubricant, as do several others. I can't speak from experience, on the results. It seems if you are only lubricating, not replacing, the lubes would be worth a try (about 6 bucks).

My FW came with a cut flap for each valve. The flap is closed, and a same coroplast, over sized cover, screwed over the flap, to prevent water entry.

From memory, I am thinking my flaps/valves are pretty much in the belly center, and lined up in a row. I have 2 40 gal gray, and 1 40 gal black.

If you took one side of the belly cover loose, for a few feet, you may be able to see the valves with a light. Then you could slide a tape along the belly inside, to figure distance to valve, and cut accordingly.

  • Instead of turning it into swiss cheese why not just remove the whole panel?
