Locating In-Bed 7-Pin

I ordered the Curt Extension to add a 7-pin plug into the bed of the truck. It's a no-cut no-splice setup that plugs into the factory harness at the bumper plug.

My question is: Where do I put the plug in the bed? Does it matter if on the left or right side? Anybody know where the factory would have put the plug on a 2015 Ram if it came with the 5th wheel prep?

  • On my 2017 and now 2022 ram I have it on the driver side about a foot to 18 inches or so in from the tailgate. On the 17 it was just above the centerline in height. On my 22 there is a 120 volt plug in the bed in that area so I just put it next to it. It does sit a bit higher than the 17 but I just put it right inline with that plug and to the rear of it.
  • Drivers side near tailgate mid height on the side of the bed.

Here you can't go wrong as this is mine in my 2015 RAM same as yours. Nice indented area.

Pics not loading right now I will post later.
  • To most it makes more sense to put it on the drivers side. After you back under the trailer and hook up you get out of the truck and walk back to hook up the trailer plug and the breakaway cable. You are already on that side of the truck. Why walk around the truck to hook it up?
