Thanks to all the serious posters. To the rest of you I am glad you found this funny. If I had wanted to provide laughs, I would have included a joke. I do take this seriously. I have not attempted to push this assist handle open as a test. Not wanting to break it just to see what would happen. I also am VERY familiar with my emergency windows. Both have been tested and for those who may not have tried them with my unit, I can tell you from experience, when push out ward, mine very readily become detached and fall to the ground. Those who suggested this I hope will try this themselves. The experience is quite costly. I am very familiar with fire hazards in RV's and have personal first hand experience. When seconds mean the difference, looking for a window to open or a bar to pull a handle loose are seldom the best option. I carry two 5# ABC extinguishers in addition to the POS provided by the manufacturer and I consider this minimal. I also have them tested and recharged them as needed.
If any of you would care to offer additional serious options I would welcome them. For the rest, please save mine and yours time.
I will attempt the suggestion of a push from the inside to release the assist handle and report back on how this works.
Thanks for that possible solution.
Uhm...you posted this on a PUBLIC forum. If you want explicit control over everyone who reads this thread, you should consider private emails instead :R
First, a little lighthearted humor never hurt anyone.
Second, did you ever stop to think that a jest about "locking" 30 strangers in their campers would make those with these dangerous handles take the warning/caution seriously?
It could happen to anyone, even if they are careful themselves.
If you're going to post on a public forum, it might be wise to lighten up a bit. Just smile or snarl, your choice, and move on to the next post.
Edit: I didn't catch the suggestion to try out your emergency window exit or would have cautioned you against it. That does stink. Apparently they are near impossible to reinstall even if you do remove them carefully (as was mentioned in a different thread looking for ideas to remove a sofa too big for the door)
