If you're going to have a truck.....have a long bed! You can do the "extra cab" long. Why worry if you're going to hit your 5th wheel at all?? :)
The way some people talk on here about backing their 5er, they have to worry about it in a long bed also.;) What do people do when backing their TT in. I can put my 38+ 5er in anywhere a long bed can without a slider in my SB.
Didn't post it for a debate. I posted a fact that you can hit you cab in a long bed just like in a short bed. This thread has nothing to do with a sliding hitch. I don't post in all the sliding hitch post either.
Another pro for a short bed truck is that (assuming same brand and cab configuration) a short bed truck will jack the trailer quicker and recover quicker in a hard backing situation.
As far as hauling 8 foot stuff in a short bed. I do it all the time with the tailgate closed. I've hauled 12' stuff in my short bed with the tailgate closed. If I am going to get a lot of materials to work with I just pull my trailer because I'm more than likely going to get 16' stuff also.
Everyone wants what they want and it don't make it better than others. I drive a CC LB day in and day out for a daily driver and yes there is a big difference in parking as apposed letting a few boards hang out over the tailgate of my truck when I need a few supplies. I am able to get everything I need in the 5er and carry 3-4 days worth of fire wood in the bed and on occasion I have a full size grill that I put in the truck bed when hosting a rally. All this in a short bed. Again this is just me.
