Long bed vs short bed

If I wanted or need an extra fuel tank/tool box I can put one in my short bed.

Well, it is a longer bed. Of course it will carry more. Forward of my hitch is a fuel tank/storage box combo, flush with the bedrails. There is enough space remaining between the hitch & tank/storage box to put anything else up to about 15" wide X bed width. Then there is plenty of space behind the hitch which in my case carrys nothing but the trailer umbilical cord since I have an inbed plug.

The only time I leave the tailgate down is when I need a surface for cooking or settin on.



Hard to see but the grill is mounted on the reciever hitch.

Had a shortbed 3/4t and will never have another,wish GM would come back out with that 9ft bed they built in 1970 for a few years.
6 1/2 ft just wont work for me as my daily driver,it just wont carry enough crap.

Well I can tell you this much. I just bought a brand new 2014 F350 SRW and first let me say, with the SRW you will be right at the very limit of the truck with the trailer weight you mentioned. I think the chevy SRW is 16,500 or 17,000. So keep that in mind for safety. I prefer the long bed because it gave me more room for a tool box, my external fuel cell, my back up portable water tanks, and some other large items that I travel with. The short bed, is easier to maneuver and a little less of a hassle. Another thing you need to take in to account is cab size CC, Single, etc, Mine is a drew cab long bed, pain in the ass sometimes in tight areas but I can fit in a parking spot if I want to. OP If you don't want opinions you shouldn't post to this forum. My brother is a rancher and always gets short bed trucks. He can barely fit his four wheeler in there and when he does, there's not room for anything else. When I ask why he doesn't get a real truck he never really has an answer. He is always amazed at how much better my truck (long bed) rides and handles loads. He is just as stubborn as any other truck owner. He refuses to be confused by the facts. I still love him though.
