Dang you guys make an issue out of everything. Just back up until your just about to touch the pin box, close the gate and finish backing up to the hitch. Did that with my last rv for 11 years. It's not really an issue. My new rv you can leave it open, it's nice that way but not a big deal for me.
If I'm in a tight spot and back in at an angle you still have to close it.
