The Andersen Ultimate is basically a gooseneck setup that eliminates the negatives to a standard gooseneck adapter. There's a version that mounts on a standard gooseneck ball and a rail mount version. I have the latter and love it.
Hopefully my mention of Andersen doesn't nuke the thread...
I agree with you...The Andersen Ultimate hitch is a 5er hitch, not considered a GN set up.
Jim
Still a ball hitch and, in AZ, would require safety chains. All this is a moot point, since the OP is considering an Open Range model, which comes FROM THE FACTORY with a GN hitch.
Lyle
That's a great feature, imo - nothing better than a gooseneck hitch. I went with the Andersen instead cause I don't like the stresses the standard adapters put on fifth wheels, but it would be even better to just use a ball down on the bed if it comes that way from the factory.
Safety chains are no big deal as far as I'm concerned. I got a pair of them including the mounting bolts for about $45 from etrailer. With what I paid for my rails and Andersen I'm still under $600 in total cost for the entire hitch setup, including the chains. - goducks10Explorer

New truck and new 5th wheeler....Fun times coming up.
Jim
Just a word of caution. Make sure you know exactly what 5th wheel you want before you buy your truck. If in fact you decide on a heavier 5th wheel you may want to go with the 4.30 gears. And vice versa, if you find the exact truck you like then you are stuck with a certain size 5th wheel.
That's why when shopping for both at the same time I like to recommend that the 5th wheel be decided on 1st. That way you won't be stuck with an underperforming truck.
Too many times buyers have a truck already and then go out and start looking at trailers. What usually happens is that their initial idea of going conservative gets thrown to the wayside when they start seeing all the other units. Pretty soon they find that they like ones that are a little bigger or nicer and that means they weigh more. Now their trucks undersized.
Anyway, have fun shopping. I would also look at all of the big 3 MFG for 3/4 ton trucks. They all have some nice qualities. - NC_HaulerExplorer

THEN, it must be ok with manufacturer to use a GN...that was an easy one:)
