the tug test or pull test as you call it has nothing to do with jaw type or design but is a safety procedure that most hitch makers recommend.
Even big rig OTR rigs do a tug test. Many trucking company safety rules requires drivers to do a tug test and as part of the hook up process.
Only on a RV website have I ever read where some say its not necessary to do a visual or a tug test.
