Cant do a real pull test with the 6 point leveling without weight on the landing gear which is too much trauma on the hydraulic jacks. I have the Reese Elite with the wraparound and I just quit worrying about it.
Hook up, look for the wraparound and make sure you see pin under it, drive!
I would never attempt a pull test, or any type of trailer movement with my landing gear down, or for that matter any part of my 6-point leveling system down.
The 4 rear jacks are up and the front 2 jacks of my 6-point system are about 2" off the ground. I hold my brake controller (locking the trailer brakes), put the truck in drive, and let the idle push it forward. I am checking to make sure my wheels stay locked and I am secured in my hitch. It is not some tug-of-war where you actually give the truck juice and try to pull it across the campground.
It is just personal preference, if folks want to skip a pull test then it sure gets them on the road a couple minutes quicker. I can look at my locked hitch jaws all day long but until I do the pull test I ain't moving my rig.
Never dropped a semi trailer and so far...(knock on wood)...I haven't dropped my fiver.
You definitely don't have the same 6-pt leveling system I do (but you should). No such thing as setting the front landing gear 2" of the ground - the front gear goes down 1 leg at a time and comes up 1 leg at a time.
I don't have to look at locked jaws - I look at a wraparound and know its not going to let go.
You are correct, sort of. It is impossible to get both front legs exactly 2" off the ground at the same time with the new 6-point leveling system. With mine I can have one about 5 or 6 inches off and the other one an inch or so off. The point is I raise them just enough to put all the weight on my truck and to get the legs off the ground. It really doesn't matter though, you could raise both completely as long as you are still chocked prior to doing pull test.
I have just gotten into the habit of not raising them completely in case I have to put them back down.
