Looking for a Fifth Wheel hitch with single, wrap around jaw

I have an RBW hitch, now on it's third truck, that has a straight, slide across bar. Very safe and foolproof, if the bar is across it is locked. The problem is the bulk of the weight is against the single flat bar, resulting in wear the slack.

I am getting ready to retire and do some serious travel. I don't want a split jaw hitch where I have to pull test every hook-up to see if the split jaws are locked. It seems like I have seen fifth wheel hitches with a single forged jaw that wraps around the pin when it closes.

Any suggestions and experiences? Thanks

  • I have had the same Hijacker sliding bar hitch that I got in January 1997. Wear has not been a problem to the king pin or the hitch. Hitch has been in two trucks and I have had this trailer for over 10 years and maybe 50K miles.

I will be sad someday when it has to retire! Chris
  • I went from the RBW to the B&W companion and love the difference. I never do a pull test. They really aren't necessary if you get under the 5er and look at the jaws and the pin. You should be doing that with the RBW too.
