Looking for ideas on a Elkridge 37ULTA

Hello all. I have been reading this forum for a while now gathering information on Heartland products. My wife and I are looking into ordering a 2014 Elkridge 37ULTA. From what I have read not many owners seem dissatisfied with this unit, which in turn to a perspective owner that’s a good thing. But I have read problems with other Heartland units. So for anyone that owns a Heartland product or more importantly an Elkridge, what problems have you had? Personally I think this unit is very family friendly. The downside is the overall length of this trailer is around 41’ and unloaded is 12000 lbs, big trailer. But for my F-350 we should be just fine. So the real reason for this post, I am looking for suggestions or ideas on what current owners of fifth wheel trailers would do different if they were going to order a new one. Is the price of rear electric jacks worth the money? Do I really need an electric cord reel? We are just weekend campers so is the thermo pane windows worth the upgrade? And any other ideas you might have. The dealer says we don’t need a slider hitch, true or false? I have always owned a travel trailer but many owners I talk with say the fiver is the way to go. So hopefully by next spring I’ll be camping in one. Thank you in advance for all your help.

  • We have had a few small problems with our Elkridge that were taken care of under warranty by the dealer and Heartland. We really enjoy the unit and find it well built and comfortable.
  • We have been pleased with our Elkridge 5r. Had a couple of minor problems taken care of by the dealer during the 1st year of warranty.
You might have gotten more input if the question was asked on the "Prospective Owners Questions" of the Heartland "Guest Area" site rather than the more specific "Elkridge Community".
I think if you go into the purchase with the expectation that there will be things that need fixing, you won't be disappointed.
  • Thanks for the replies. We just submitted the speck sheet this past weekend for our dealer to take to the Louisville show. Looks like we should be able to get delivery of our new unit, end of February or early March. Which is ok since its getting cold here and there won’t be any camping until April time. Once the dealer gets the trailer we have a few things we want them to put on the trailer and then it will be time to enjoy!!
I’ve sent the same question to the Heartland owners club but got only a couple of responses as well. I was a little disappointed that more owners there and here did not reply or at least put in their 2 cents worth. But it’s ok, I did some researching and I hope I got all that I need to know. The build sheet for this trailer did not have many options so some of the decisions were pretty straight forward.
Again thanks for your responses. I, and the kids, can’t wait til spring.
  • I own a Heartland Big Country. We've had minimal problems. The Heartland owners forum is one of the best there is with answers to all your questions, often by Heartland management who monitor the forum. Factory support both during and after your warranty period has been outstanding! Every brand may have a few problems, it's how they are resolved that matters...

  • We bought a Big Country in August of this year and LOVE it. Have had 6 trips and (knock on wood) no issues. We brought it home, loaded it up and took off for a week's trip for labor day holiday. We traded in a 2012 Raven by Winnie that was a nightmare.

We have met other Heartland owners along the way some had issues and some not. But all had good things to say about service and their customer service. My advice is go over the unit with a fine tooth comb, that is what we did. Good Luck on your decision.
