- powderman426ExplorerIf you determine that yours is setup for gas only operation, for about $75 you can buy a device called a hotrod that will allow it to work in both modes.
- silvercorvetteExplorerThe past 3 RV I owned had both. When I am paying to camp I use the camp grounds electricity, but if I am stopped at a rest stop whether it be sleeping over night I can take a shower in the morning or if I just stopped a few hours to cook a meal and take a nap it's nice to be able to have hot water using propane. If you are stuck with just an electric heater you are going to have to run the generator for hot water
By the way I just picked up a new (2009) RV that has 4 electric switches, the way it works is all 4 switches must be on and turning off one switch turns it off. - skipncharExplorerThe switch to turn ON the electric operation is inside the service panel located OUTSIDE of the trailer but don't get confused and think it SWITCHES to electric. There are separate controls for LP mode and electric mode and neither one will effect the other. Turn on the electric without turning off the LP mode and it'll be running on both modes at once.
Good luck / Skip - ReneeGExplorerOur previous rig was a Komfort TT and the switch was right on the water heater on the outside - had to take the cover off and do it there. Current rig, the switch is on the inside in the control panel.
- wkswensonExplorerCouple of possibilities...
1. You don't have the electric option, so there would be no switch.
2. When the electric option is installed there is an off/on switch inside the water heater (from outside the rig). Small switch on the lower left hand side marked On/Off.
3. Look into any cabinet or access panel behind the water heater. Our current rig doesn't have any other switch, but has a regular plug/wall outlet in the cabinet behind the heater. Our last rig had a switch mounted underneath the kitchen cabinets right above the sink area that turned on the AC heater. - NJRVerExplorerMy electric switch is outside on the tank itself. Hard to see unless you open the access cover and are looking for it.
The gas switch is on the wall inside above the h/w heater. - MitchF150Explorer IIII think it also depends if your HW tank is setup to run on electric?? Not all of them are and when they do, the switch is usually around where the switch is to run it on gas...
Have you verified that you indeed have a 120v optioned HW tank?
Good luck!
Mitch - Mandalay_ParrExplorerYes it will work on 30 amps. It probably only draws 5-8 amps..and that is only until it gets hot. Then it will shut off.
