Looking to upgrade my camper

Hi,
Currently using a popup but looking to upgrade to a 5th wheel toy hauler.
I have a 2005 F-250 5.4 gas 4x4 crew cab 8' bed.
Trying to figure out how much weight I can actually tow with it, not just ratings but actual experience.
Does anyone have any input?

  • Thanks, 9K isn't much of a 5th wheel... Maybe I'll stick with a TT

According to the 2005 Ford towing guide, it depends on your axle ratio
    Auto trans, Std & 5th wheel towing: 3.73= 9,000, 4.10=11,000,
    Manual Trans, Std & 5th wheel towing: 3.72= 8,000 4.10= 10,000
Lots of fine print to read thru, but those are the basic numbers

Yes, toy haulers are heavy for their length, and in my experience they pull heavy due to their typical kick-up at the back.
That 5.4 is going to be really working hard.
  • Toy Haulers are among the heaviest of 5ers, so a 5.4 is likely out of its league.
