Lost wheel

I have a 99 Jayco fifth wheel. About 3 years ago we were traveling on I-476 south when all of a sudden something happened. Maybe a flat tire. We stopped and the back curbside spring had broke, 4 leaf spring. It sheared all six lug nuts off and the trailer dropped and the wheel jammed up under the trailer. When we were able to get to the repair facility I told them I wanted a 5 leaf spring put on and I would replace the other 3 when I got home. The hub was not replaced.
Fast forward to July 2013. York, Pa, This guy passed me on I83 and gave me the evil point that has happened to most of us. I pulled over and he said either you lost your spare tire or one of your tires came off. Well one of the wheels came off. It was the rear curbside wheel. The same as 3 years ago. Four of the studs came out and the other two were sheared off.
Since the hub was probably rounded out because of non replacement could they have just worked there way out of the hub over the years?

  • I can't speak to your brand, but if the sensor doesn't report on the tiretraker, it will alarm and point out which wheel by giving a NOS signal. Did I mention how much I love my TPMS?

I don't think so. It will only send a sighal if there is a drop in pressure. If it does not receive a signal from the sensor it will not alarm, or at leat my TST won't. I left my TST on one day after I unhooked the trailer and five miles down the road the monitor was still reporting all is good.
