Low Bridges POI database ?

Hello all -

I will be picking up my new 5th wheel next week, so I'm in process of programming my GPS (RM 7720) with the 5th wheel specs. I'm wondering if anyone has downloaded any of the low bridges databases to their GPS. I've looked at the POI Factory site so I know they exist, but I don't know how helpful they are. Please let me know what you do.

* I do intend to measure carefully and post the height of my rig right in front of me on the truck dash.

Thank You,

Tim

  • Using Microsoft Streets and Trips 2013 with Windows 8 Professional, I utilize a S&T_POI_Mega File. Simply do a search on your web browser for low clearances and you will find that resources abound for most any type of navigation interest you have.
Its not a bad idea to pick up a copy of Rand McNally's Motor Carriers Atlas Premium edition or you can connect to http://www.aitaonline.com/ where there is a listing by state.
If you came to our neck of the woods, there are entire State Parkways that do not appear in any low clearance list or database, but be assured trucks can be found a number of times a year wedged under a 7'2" clearance overpass here.

Its never a bad idea to obtain local knowledge before you journey out. Most importantly, be vigilant for any road signs indicating low clearances or other upcoming road restrictions or hazards.

    Safe journeys.
  • I have a 77710 and it is in the GPS already. You just need to update it when you get it so it is current. It did route me around a low bridge last year.

  • I use android apps. Low Clearances, Aitaonline (not an app) but gives low clearances. Good to carry the truckers atlas.

I use the iPhone app "Copilot" and thought that stuff was in there too. What is not "in there" tho are things like tree branches and gas station canopies, so don't trust those things completely, keep an eye out for any low stuff. I like your thought on putting the height of your rig on the dash.
