Maybe Alabama has stock in the company that makes WD-40. One would think a grease would work better than WD-40, though. Cheaper to use a lube plate.
Car2900, if you raise your fiver up another 2" or 3" before backing onto the kingpin, the lube plate won't hit the hitchhead.
Traveler, why does your lube plate have to be thinner than a normal one?
The scrapes on the hitchhead are probably caused by dirt or sand that gets on there when you're unhitched. We get them, too, and have always used a lube plate.
