Metal carport for 5th wheel questions

I'm going to be ordering a Carolina Carport or similar for my camper. I'm getting a 18X36' size. It'll be the "regular" style with the curved over sides.

My question is...what leg height? I'm curious if the 11' will be tall enough or if I should go ahead and get the 12'?

I want to be able to park with the driver's side as close to the inside wall as possible to hopefully park my truck beside camper. Just want to make sure I'll have enough true clearance at the sides.

Thanks
  • Yup, at least 12 ft. I do have to park with care. Enough width to allow all slides out is also a must.

How close to the sides can you get?
I could get right up to the sides if I wanted but I park in center and extend slides. Lots of room all around with slides out.
  • Mine is 18 x 60 with 12' legs. I have enough room to open the slides and get on the roof.
  • Went a little diffrent rout, Mine is 14' on the side, 46' long and 24' wide. Can park open the slides and park the F350 drw with about 3 " clearance from all meeting points Wall to extended slided, hips to outside wall and 3" between hips and open slide on door side to hips. But then I have 1 acre to play with, out side of the city limits and NO HOA to deal with.
After I traded for a 5er, from a 30'tt, found out that the 30x50 shop with 10' doors just did not let me in.
Not boasting just saying what happened to me. Be sure to think ahead as mentioned before.
  • Go with the 12ft legs. I went with 11 and ended up having them come back later and raising them two ft. Cost me over $600 to raise them

  • How tall is your 5th? Mine is 12' 9". I think most are over 12' tall so you will need one close to 14' at the lowest point of the ceiling.
  • I have been looking at the same type of protection for my 5th wheel. I will be going with the 12 ft. sides. Don't forget most of them will have a cross support bracket that goes from your sidewall to roof supports. When the roof brackets sit on the sidewall it does give you extra height higher that the 12 ft. wall. The one I was looking at had a center height of 14'4"-14'6". Living in the northeast I need one that will hold a snow load. I found some info and diagrams on metalcarportdepotllc.com. I have talked to them and the person was very helpful in explaining to me exactly what type of structure I would need for my area that I live in. Also remember you might come home one day with a taller RV! I am still in the looking process.
