My rationale for this was that the valve stem and sensor are outside the tire, and I would think that a temperature gradient would set up in the valve stem and sensor in the flow field. Of course, if I go all steel tires I need sensors outside the tire - so it is now a mute point.
My tire dealer made a couple of points about TPMS temps and pressure on a LDT.
1. Tpms inside the wheel is more influenced by heat soak from the axle bearings/hubs and the wheel after a long hard run at load.
2. TPMS on the stem reacted more to outside air temps/road temps/etc.
His theory was the stems gave a more acurite temp of the tire. I have no theory. Oh yeah he sold all types and brands and had no favorite.
