Report for last trip towing:
Just got back to our home in West Michigan on the lakeshore last Sunday 4/6/2014 from our annual trip to Florida since leaving 1/11/14 for snowbirding and visiting family down there. Pulled our 29' Carriage Carrilite 5th wheel scale weighed loaded at 12,866 lbs including the pin weight and was pulled with our 2004.5 Chevy 2500 D/A CC LB 4X4 truck with our 46 lb siberian husky, my wife and I in the truck and 3 extra group 31 12V batteries in the bed plus my 2 20 X 22 X 45 inch storage boxes full of stuff and my tools. On the back corners of the truck bed is our Zappy Pro-Flex 3 wheel electric scooter taken apart in the middle and the seat post and basket removed and the handle bars folded down so the halves will clear the 5th wheel. A plastic 5' X 7' tarp bungeed around each half to keep them dry. Truck's scaled weight was 8,867 lbs including all cargo, passengers, fuel, and the 5th wheel hitch. Total rig weight when we left home was 21,733 lbs.
Here's the numbers for the trip:
3653.4 miles traveled per our GPS and also very close to the odometer % corrected for larger dia 265 tires that replaced the OEM 245's in 2006 (3658.7 mi odo). New Michelin LTX tires put on last November 2013.
267.3 gallons diesel used. Full when left and filled when returned
13.67 mpg for the trip
58-60 mph on Interstates, 55 mph or as posted on non-Interstate but never exceed 60 mph.
Numbers are very close every year as the distance traveled is close each year. Truck/5th wheel rig has been the same for 6 years but 3 years we'd taken our big Lance TC down and pulled our 6 X 12 single axle vee nosed enclosed trailer behind the TC instead of the 5th wheel rig. TC rig with the vee nosed trailer gets approx 1 mpg better.
