There is no need to use the "advanced post form" if you use the picture posting app that you linked to. Picture post app. All you need do is simply paste the URL of the uploaded picture given in the app directly into your post, without making ANY changes, just as you would type a sentence. Forget about that yellow "image" button! :)

Some of the early fifth wheels had two AC units and equipped with washer/dryers.
Found a photo of a 1987 Elkhart Traveler with shore power coming out the rear. Hatch appeared to be about 7 X 9 inches.

Not too much of this setup makes sense. Most 1985 RVs other than large Class A rigs would have been 30 amp rigs. I wonder if one of the previous owners thought they were tripping the breaker too often so they replaced the 30 AMP breaker with a single pole 40 AMP as a band aid cure. Personally, if I wasn't comfortable with the electrical circuits I would have an electrician check it out. They would be able to determine whether or not the panel is a 50 amp panel. They would be able to trace the wiring to the point where a shore cord would need to be attached and they would then be able to check all the connections and wiring to be sure any modifications were correctly done. It would be a few of hours of hired help that might prevent a serious accident.

Me thinks the best advice would be to find a qualified RV tech and have it done by him. OP obviously doesn't understand the electric system (neither do I) and mistakes can be costly and even deadly.

Converter and Inverter do not hook to the breaker box main. Converter is fed from a 15 amp breaker in the box. Converter then goes to the 12 volt DC buss to provide 12 volts to lights and control circuits and also charges the battery. The INverter is connected to the battery on one side and to 120 volt loads on the other side.The large wire is the Shore Power cord.It goes from the ped to the main breaker. Sometimes via a TS.Converter/charger does the work of both.

Lots of things wrong with your explanation.

Converter should be connected 3 wire cable (black, white, copper/green)

Main breaker should be 30 amp or if there are two mains they should be 50 amps each. (no 40 amp)

We really need a picture of the breakers or at least a model number of the panel.

Red and black are the normal phase conductors in range cable along with white neutral and bare ground. Range Romex 6/3 with ground is commonly used in fifty amp 120/240 shore power cable.
