Misting System

It's starting to get hot here in Fl. And I want to build a misting system to mount to the side of the 5th wheel under the awning using 1/2" PVC pip Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I could rig up a garden hose that would run either off of my water pump or a hose bib? Many of the places we go either have no hook ups or very low water pressure. Any advice about misting systems will be appreciated.

  • I have used commercial mister's (off the shelf) during stays in the Nevada summer...just a word of advice. Be careful of HARD water and any painted item anywhere near the mist. I made the mistake of parking my car near by and the wind shifted causing a very nice design of water spots that took me about two weeks of rubbing compound, CLR and other combinations to finally get things shined again.
  • I think the big difference it that the commercial mist systems are 1000psi+, making them more foggers than misters. Go to Home Depot and see what a simple hose end mister will do there on a typical Fla summer day before investing
  • Will it work in Fl? I'm not sure. Most of the attractions like Disney, Sea World, and Universal use them, so I'm thinking they must help, and in the hot Fl. summer, any help will be welcomed. From what I have read, misters could potentially lower the temp. by as much as 20 degrees. I am sure it won't work that we'll with our high humidity, but it could make sitting under the awning, drinking a cold beverage, while smoking a pork butt much more pleasant.

  • Bob,
If you were in West Texas,New Mexico or Arizona, the mist system is the way to go - it provides moisture (humidity) which cools the hot & dry air. BUT...in South Florida (like here in NOLA), when the summer temperature goes up, the humidity also goes up - and a mist system will just make you wetter and more miserable!! You need a dehumidifier / air conditioner for the inside of the rig - and venture outside only when necessary to do so. (That is why you see streams of water (condensation) dripping from those window units.) I think you need to rethink your plan for happiness in a Florida Summer!!!
  • Are you sure that a misting system would work in a hot, humid Florida. I see a lot of them in dry Arizona.

If you do install one, let us know how effective it is.
