I agree that pulling to the side while trying to lift up will cause the leg to bind. But like I said it may work if the inside of the leg is well lubed.
I use a dry graphite spray lube on my legs and stabilizers (and just about everything that needs lubed).
Inner tubes slide smoothly. I use my awning rod....just slip end into lower pin hole and pull up. Easy-peasy
