Mods for a new FW

The FW I'm considering has a standard, solid, pin box and no shocks. If you could only choose 1, which would it be; shocks or pin box?

Assuming I can get 12v power to the front vent, which fan do you recommend? I had a Fantastic fan in my old FW and it was quiet and had a thermostat to turn on/off (never used it) but only had 3 speeds. I'm just starting to look at current fans, so don't know anything about them. Salesman recommended a Maxxair because it has something like 10 speeds. What do y'all say?

X2 I had shocks on the 5er when I bought it and removed them when I flipped the axle. I have not noticed any difference. I do pull over rock strewn roads with sever bumps and ruts. Just go slow to keep things in place when the trailer is tilted north and the truck is tilted south :D

  • One of best mods I did on our RV was to move the vent fan with push button on/off from bedroom to the kitchen overhead vent, then bought a fan with remote and installed in bedroom. Now with remote, a push of a button I can shut off the fan from bed (ie without someone having to get up out of bed and push the shut off the fan). Then I removed the kitchen overhead vent, fish around with a flashlight and coat hanger and found overhead light wire, and tapped into it.
Didn't realize this mod would turn out so good, until laying in bed almost in la la land, and just before going to sleep I can shut off the fan above bed with a push of a button. No more getting poked in side, just before going to sleep and hearing "Honey, turn off the fan". And fan in kitchen (low, med, high speeds) really gets the heat out fast. On hot days with door open and fan going it makes a nice draft of air. And a side benefit now when toasting bread or cooking, very seldom does smoke alarm go off.
  • Thanks, all. Going to tow it a bit before spending more bux (SWMBO) has to get over the initial shock of buying it, but the fan is a necessity. Sure hope there's a 12v line easily accessible...

  • A note on the new Fantastic Fans; The company was bought by Dometic and no longer has a life time warranty. They also redesigned the motor and it's much louder than the old black bodied motors were.
I have three of them in our new TT and they are just "OK".
