As much as I feel bad for the employees these things happen.
This is the way most companies close. There are reasons that employees are not allowed to enter the building. You never know how anyone will react to bad news. The safety of the employees has to be considered.
Not true, even a sudden closing, the correct method is to arrange to escort employees to get any personal property in the building.
Actually the correct way would be to treat employees with dignity and have meetings prior to closing explaining why/how the closing will occur and what their options would be.......NOT just tossing them aside like trash.
That is what a stand up company does......unfortunately corporations don't care about the employees.
