Experience, yes. Success, not really. I ended up buying one. But I was able to take it apart, clean it out (soaked in seafoam) and narrow the problem to the bottom of the carb.
In my case it was a problem with the electronic shut off at the bottom of the carb. Took me 6 months to find the right part number (Carburetor Fuel Shut Off Solenoid 146-0795 for Onan Marquis Generator 541-0765) and I could not wait. So I bought a new one, and when I found the part I bought two so I have a spare carb and a spare fuel cut off.
I got them from an ebay seller that turned out to be a commercial truck repair place (and certified Onan repair shop) in the LA area.
