Well, time to get a trouble code and figure out whats really wrong...
The manual tells exactly how to get the trouble code. Come back here and tell us what trouble code is stored in your genny. Then we can maybe figure this thing out.
Not saying this is the problem, or you shouldn't get the trouble code, but have you done the 400hour valve adjustment/check ? Your hard starting you mentioned is a common problem with 'tight valves'.
