Great idea using portable can with fresh fuel to limit the variables. Also monitoring the hz as the generator runs could give insight on the chain of events happening.
Have you checked for an inline fuel filter. Some toyhauler and Moho builders add them. Also time to inspect the fuel line between tank and generator. Most toyhaulers have a very long run of flexible fuel line. If deteriorating - it could be collapsing during operation from the suction.
