It's because the pin acts as the fulcrum of the lever (created by the frame), meaning weight on the rear end is multiplied based on distance from the fulcrum. The axles act as an "upward" force counter-acting the weight on the lever system. Believe me, I had to look this up to refresh my memory on levers. :-) This is based on conditions when hitched to your truck. When =unhitched=, however, your FW reverts to a basic teeter-totter lever system, where the axles =are= the fulcrum. Ain't physics fun?! :-)
