mounting TV bracket in BR

Our new 5er did not come with a TV in the bedroom but there is a sticker on the wall that says "TV backer here". My question is has anyone mounted a TV to a wall like this, how big is the area that is "supported", and is this adequate support? Will the TV have to be taken down during travel? We will be mounting a 18" flat panel LCD that only weighs about 8-9 lbs.

Thanks, Mike
  • I used hollow door anchors in the spots that were unsupported & screws in the spots that were. Only needed 4 spots & holds my 22" LCD just fine even during travel. Just be mindful of how long a screw & what's on the other side so as to not go through.
  • It's wood in my 295rst 2014 touring. I mounted a 24 inch no problem. Sturdy for travel.
My cat does camp. Loves to dog watch from in the comfy trailer.
  • Thanks for the quick replies. I was looking at a locking bracket that will keep it in place while traveling. I will try all suggestions. Thanks again.
  • If the magnet trick doesn't work try an electronic stud finder, just in case it's aluminum or wood bracing.
Also best to stick with the stable mount that doesn't move once set, if using a swing arm you may want to figure out a strapping method.
  • Drove one screw into the middle of the sticker on mine and hit nothing at all. So what I did was cover the area in wide painters masking tape , and used a Franklin stud finder and marked out the studs on the masking tape, then just to make sure that I found a stud I used the smallest finishing nail that I had and nailed it partway into the middle of the stud where the bracket holes would be and pulled it back out . I then screwed the bracket in first then took it off, removed the tape and remounted the bracket.
  • You should be fine with a small TV like that. The backer they usually put in is a metal panel. You can usually find the edges by using a magnet. No need to remove the TV for travel as long as you have a stable mount.
