We've asked more than several times for these ST tire enthusiasts to do a test; I'm just going to throw out an example...may not be the best, but pick up an E rated ST tire, pick your medicine...then pick up a Michelin XPS RIB....comparing like tires, the RIB is MUCH heavier and sidewall MUCH thicker....Some of the information being tossed out about ST sidewall being able to take more and on and on is no where near fact and again, can be seen by doing the above test....
Your weight comparison is very bias. When compared to like sized LT tires the XPS Rib is also heavier than all of them. It’s steel casing design is much deferent from them. It’s a retreadable tire with taller treads and more dense compounds. It has an extra steel belt to help prevent punctures. It has added sidewall rubber strips to protect curbing damage. It’s a very heavy, durable tire designed for inner city delivery and pick-up. None of the extra weight adds to it’s certified strength.
Next time you do a comparison ask the dealer if they have a durometer hardness tester. It measures the density of the rubber compound. It's very common in NASCAR for all race teams to have one.
