Need a little help

We have a 2013 Palomino Puma 253 FBS we purchased new in October that we are living in as full timers. Last Saturday evening the furnace stopped working. I have tried all of the instructions in the manual to restart it with no luck. The dealer is several miles away and their instructions were to bring the 5th wheel to them or remove the furnace and take it to them for repair. We have the 5th wheel skirted and ready to winter here in North East Missouri until my wife retires next year. We are shopping for a tow vehicle but have not found anything yet, so we are stuck in a hard place. It also looks like the 5th wheel body was built around the furnace. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

  • Call the manufacture and get them to OK the warranty work to be done by a mobile tech. Call them before you have any one repair it.

Being your dealer is only several miles away why not ask dealer to come to you? Tell him (as you said)you don't have anything to tow it with. You'll most likely pay for service call but it would work better for you.

X2.. Since they sold it to you , they should at least consider it..
  • don't know why they won't come to you, our tech's drove 90 miles one day to service a TT. they do need to bring a lot of testing stuff with them, or they can just take it back to the shop to test it. if you do it just remember the gas will be off for the duration, so you will have to eat sandwiches or go out to eat for a few days.
  • I would check fuses and circuit breakers first to make sure none have tripped or blown that are associated with the furnance
Make sure the batteries are charging...some control units require 12v power and if the batteries are low will not work.
Check wiring connection to make sure they are not loose or corroded
Find a mobile RV repair technician in the area, check with the dealer and manufacturer they may pay for the service visit under warranty due to your circumstances.
Think about getting a couple of portable electric heaters until you can get the RV to the dealer.

Our furnace can be removed through the fresh air vent inside the RV. Make sure the gas is shut off and the gas line is capped. A friend was burned, the repair person remove the furnace and failed to tell her he had not capped off the line. He was gone when she returned to the trailer. She went outside & turned on the gas so she could cook dinner and as she got back in the RV there was an explosion.
  • I would get a mobile RV guy to come by and take a look. Most are authorized to do warranty work on the components of RVs.

Even if you must pay it's probably cheaper (in your situation) than trying to get the 5er back to the dealer.

  • My furnace removes from the outside
    yours probably does as well

Ask the dealer if one of his guys will come out and remove the furnace after work and you will pay the employee for his time
