After researching different aux tanks we opted for a 65 gal direct flow from American Tank.
We did not like the operation of a gravity or transfer system preferring to select if we want to burn off the main or the aux. When switching between tanks the truck fuel gauge recalibrates and shows quantity for that tank. Works for me.
Reason for the tank?
Picking the best fuel prices along our route. On our recent trip we saw fuel from $3.76 gal to $4.19 gal. Guess what price we tanked.
I like the piece of mind of not having to worry about where we will HAVE to stop every couple of hours especially on a long day or long trip. With the aux we have over 100 gallons of fuel on board when full.
Example; again on our recent trip to the Pacific NW traveling with friends in their rig we left Baker City, OR stopping in Ontario to top off fuel and then stopped in Homedale, ID overnight. Next day we traveled to Winnemucca, NV for another overnight. Next day we traveled the last 3 hour 177 mile trip to our home bases in Reno. Never had to refuel and still had over 1/4 left in each tank.
Guess who is getting an aux tank installed? Yup, top on his list.
Another thing....if you don't travel long distance like some full/part timers you still may want to look into this. One of the best accessories we've added.
