Before I installed the auxiliary fuel tank I had a couple instances of pulling off the highway to fuel up, only to discover I couldn't maneuver my truck and 40' toyhauler around where the pumps were. I never really came close to running out of fuel, but pulling in somewhere and then having to pull right back out again is a major pain in my book.
Now I fuel up in the evening after I drop the trailer. And while traveling I can stop and take a break at a nice rest area instead of a nasty diesel truck stop. It's just all in what you choose to do.
Our truck and toyhauler weigh about 23,000 lbs. so the extra 40 gallons adds up to about 1.2% of our total weight. I doubt that it will affect our mileage enough to matter.
