Need advice with a possible deal

There is a dealership that has two locations. One is 2 hours from us and the other is 5 hours away. I thought I was calling the one closer to us, but accidentally called the one farther away.

They had a 5er that I was interested in, so I wound up talking with that salesman anyway. He offered to have it delivered to the location closer to us, if we could agree on a price and put down a refundable deposit.

I said I would talk it over with my DH and let him know tomorrow. Then, I got to thinkin'... How can I agree on a price on a unit that I had not even seen, except in the photos? That does not make sense to me. Is this something that is commonly done? Agree on a price to have it moved to another location?

    Is this a new 5er? If so as a retired RV sales guy I did it a lot. You have right of refusal upon your inspection and best of all it is a refundable deposit!

    If it ain't in writing it doesn't exist

    So I would have to have an E-mail at minimum that states 'No Obligation and ALL monies for deposit are refundable if no sale'

    NEVER EVER put money down on anything till you inspect it. if they want to bring it closer to you ,thats great , but don,t commit to a price. and remember the golden rule, never ever beleave what a sales person tells you.

    No, I would not agree on a price without viewing/inspecting, and the agreed on price including anything I wanted changed/fixed. I would be wondering about a refundable deposit, which may mean if you buy a different trailer from us.

    It's a used trailer...a 2009 Cameo. Yes, new, I can feel OK about agreeing to a price beforehand, but for used, we would have to see the condition of it, right? I don't know if they will bring it up without agreeing on a price, but I guess if they won't, then we will just have to pass.

    He did say that the deposit was fully refundable if we bought nothing else.

    IF they will do it, I will ask him to send me an email with the particulars, like I did before with Camping World when they held a 5er for us to go see a week later, as we were on vacation at the time.

    Be wary of refundable deposits. Saying that is one thing, actually doing it is quite another.

    You absolutely must inspect it yourself, or at the least, pay someone. For all you know it smells like cigarettes or fish.

    I would never make a sight unseen offer on a used unit or new unit for that matter. Too many issues can exist especially on used units that are sold "as is". I would expect a 2 hour minimum inspection performed by me before I ever discussed price on used. I would never sign papers on a new unit until the same inspection is performed by me and all issues are fixed. Dealers make good margin on used units and there is always room for negotiations, but not without seeing it.

    Definitely! He said that they would fix everything except for little things like broken drawer handles, etc.

    He said that after signing the papers, they would put us up in a campground nearby for the night. If we had any issues, they would fix them the next day. Is this common practice, too?
