Need Help fixing AC Leak

We have an 08 Crossroads 5th wheel and the AC/15kBTU is leaking condensation into the inside of the trailer. I've tightened the seal and checked it 8 ways from Sunday. No leaks when water runs down the roof around the unit. I've taken off the top cover and inside covers and inspected for the source of the problem, but the best I can tell is it's dripping off the Styrofoam and running down along the inside cover and dripping on the floor. The amount of water is significant, thankfully we're able to notice it and catch all of the water in a bin before any water damage could be done.

Anyone run into a similar problem?

Thanks.

  • Hope you did not tighten the gasket too much. If you did you might have flattened it and you might need a new one. If they are compressed too much they WILL fail.
  • Thanks for all the replies. I received an email response from the Coleman Mach sub. company regarding the issue. They explained that there are two drain nipples on the bottom side of the A/C frame that sits on the roof. If the 4 mounting bolts are tightened too much, the frame is squeezed against the roof, thereby sealing the drain nipples against the rubber/vinyl roof. The water then collects on the inside of the unit and runs into the coach.
  • Wasps, mud daubers, etc love to plug up small holes like the a/c drain hole, then the condensate will back up and spill into the trailer.
  • Is there a chance the drain on the bottom of the AC that drains onto the roof is plugged some or totally? We have had this problem in the past so I went on the roof and found the drain. It is in the door side front corner. It is about 3/4" in diameter and grayish white. The hole in it is only about 1/8" in diameter. I cut it off about 1/4" and the now the drain hole is about 1/2". It was plugged up with some snotty looking stuff. AS soon as I cut it off water started pouring out. Something for you to check and think about.
  • find the drain for the evaporator and make sure it is not obstructed.
