Need New Tires

Because I had a blow out on my one year old Towmaster ST 235/80/16 rated E made in China tires. I'm thinging of buying 4 new ST tires or LT tires made in the USA any ideas out there for size and make My 35 ft Cardinale 5th wheel wheighs 13,500. 10,600 on the axles. The distance between my tires is 2.5 in. I see that the LT tires are about 1in. bigger that whould give me a 1.5 in between the tires.
Thanks Bob

Yeah, I no Keith I'm allready going nuts. My axles are 6000#. Seems like most 5th wheel owners like Bridgstone R250 or Michelin XPS Rib. All most nobody feels save with the ST tires.

With 6000# axles the tires you mentioned are a perfect fit. The LT235-85-16 is a little taller that your OE Chinese tires and will reduce the clearance between tires by about 1". The other size option is a LT245-75-16 which will be almost he same size as your OE tires.

Keep in mind that when all the arguing starts, the only requirement for replacement tires is that they must meet or exceed the GAWR.

  • Do what I did. Go to a Firestone TransForce HT 245 75 16.

  • What is the weight rating for your axles (GAWR). If you have 6000# axles there are some good options. The minimum spacing between tires is 1".

Be careful, this one could get nuts very quickly when the "shill" arrives.

You may not have the space for LT tires. If you do and your wheels are rated for the weight and pressures you would run in them then it may be the best option. If you must use ST tires I would use only Maxxis "E" rated tires. You get to make all the choices since your paying, good luck with the decision.
