Thank you everyone! Let me respond to each in turn:
Mark, I plan on becoming best friends with the salesman of the 5th Wheel and the salesman of the truck. This won't be like my laptop...unused bells and whistles. I am going to find the time to take it to the mall parking lot late at night and practice driving around front ways and backwards. I may even take my wife along to get used to the hollering from the passenger seat while driving. I will take your advice and do alot of internet searching. Thank You! Really, as for the wife and I, I know we are set for an adventure, but it's sure alot of work getting there!
Swamp Man...been there done that. US Army Ranger School...Swamp phase. Nothing like walking through neck deep water, hopping from tree root to tree root. Thank you for the suggestion on instruction videos on the internet. I did back an anti-aircraft cannon onto a C-131, but that was once a long time ago, and it was a sunny and warm afternoon.
Roger, I think I agree with you. I shot the pass this morning doing about 85, and it was bare and dry, but a white dusting about 100 feet up the mountains. One poster suggested I take the Columbia River Gorge route to I-5, which avoids passes altogether, and I think that's what we'll do. I've taken the pass in a VW Beetle in the dead of winter, dodging slush-spray from 18 wheelers. I think it was one of God's angels that kept us on the road more than a few times. And we will have 2 days to make the trip, so I think I'll be going pretty slow, at least until I gain more confidence. Nervousness can be as bad as inexperience, but when you put them both together, things can get ugly really quick.
Chris, got it. One axle. Thank you! I feel like I'm gaining enough information to ask some intelligent questions. I'm a visual kind of guy, so if I see it (like the dealer will point to it and say "that thing") then I can figure it out.
