Need your input

What?
1. Turn off tow/haul. Why would you do this? its designed to, I don't know, Tow.
2. Manually put in 3rd gear (a gear that will hold it back, but I let the TH do it.
3. Turn on hazard lights. Why?
4. Hang on, Why it is only 6% according to zackyboy3rs. I tow 6% anytime I tow. Been in CO, of coarse AZ, and between here and Washington and t the east coast 6% is nothing.

I have the Chevy 2500 hd and tow a 12k loaded TT. Drive and enjoy the view.

6% is nuttin'. Leave in T/H mode and manually downshift if you feel you need to. Personally, if the engine's not holding speed, I'll let the speed run up to about 5 over my "target" speed, then stab the brakes medium-hard, slow down to about 5 under my "target", then let it ride. I rarely manually downshift on downgrades, but will on =up= grades to keep the tranny from hunting.

Just for my own edification. If your burying the tach and high rpm are ok, how is this not redlining the engine? Or are saying its ok to run the rpms high...just not too high?

Some people think that 3500 rpm is to high of a rpm. (for a gas engine )
You can take it up to the red line but shouldn't go beyond that is what I was trying to say.

Not trying to give you a hard time, just trying to understand. But thats kinda what I thought you meant. I don't tow over many grades, but like to have an understanding for when that time comes.

Leave it in tow/haul, auto mode. The truck should downshift to maintain the correct speed. You may have to brake once in a while, but I doubt that it will be much. That's not that long or steep of a grade.

I just leave mine in Tow/Haul and set the cruise control to the speed and the truck will down shift and engine brake as needed.

I must have came down Black Mountain coming home from Jacksonville NC a couple of weeks ago on I-40.
Don't remember anything special.
Probably had the cruise set at 65 or 70.
No big deal.

I went up and down a 14% grade (Utah Hwy 12) towing using tow/haul and the truck shifted down to 2nd gear. On Fords not using tow/haul means you don't get the engine brake. The newer superduties have a switch with makes it a lot more convenient but the engine brake works fine in the 2011-2014 models so long as you are below 45 mph and are in tow/haul.

I found on my '09 Super Duty if you set the cruise control to a speed it will hold it going downhill(6% grade). It uses engine brake and downshifting. I've never tried with the cruise off and tapping the brake.

Of course that was 2 trailers ago and less weight. I don't know about now.
