Sigh - these threads always turn into B&W crazy fan-boy obsession and then everyone else. I guess let me throw my hat into the ring...
I own a B&W Companion.
I am easily distracted. I usually have a helper - be it my wife or my daughter.
I can see the sad day where I forget a step. Specifically- I can see the sad day where I actually forget to put the pin in to lock the handle in place.
In this case, I'd like to believe that the hitch would hold itself shut from the pressure of the pin against the jaws.
Yes, you can drop a fiver with a B&W hitch due to user error and distractions.
Is it common? No. Have I ever heard of someone dropping their fiver with a B&W hitch? No. Do I believe it can happen? YES.
