new durango gold

Just purchased a 2018 durango gold 384rlt. what do you think of towing with a 2006 dodge ram 2500 big horn edition 5.9 cummins with 425 hp injectors and 2 stacked chips 5' tube with scrubber removed?
  • Nice trailer. That is a lot of weight and a big power boost for the 4 speed auto. Based on your call name I'm guessing you already have it beefed up. I tow a lighter trailer and will spike my exhaust gas temperature when hitting the grades to the point of having to slow down. I'm still running my cat so that may have something to do with the higher EGT. See you on the road.

By the way, make sure you have an exhaust brake.
  • You will be over the GVWR a lot, over OEM rear tire rating, and will need air bags.

Dry pin weight is 20.7 percent. At fully loaded trailer you are looking at 3100+ pin weight plus hitch and anything else in the bed. So figure at least an additional 3500 lbs on the rear axle. The OEM 17" tires have a low capacity.

Hope you are monitor EGT on your Big C.

  • Since you gave no FW trailer wts/pin wt, I'll just say, you'll likely be over truck GVWR, with that size trailer. You will need to check loaded FW pin wt, at scale, or FW GVWR x .20, as a guess, to be sure to stay within RAWR/tire/wheel max rating. You can decide, if the numbers are safe for you.

  • big horn edition has 1 ton rating 6010 lbs rear end gvw quad cab 8' bed aotomatic. I believe it has the lower of the two gear ratios too. transmission was rebuilt with added 3 plate heavy duty clutch.
  • Im not normally a numbers guy...but just looking at the ram towing guide I suspect your right at your payload max before you load anything in the rv or truck. Hopefully somebody will be able to quote specifics when you provide your truck specs (quad/crew/mega auto/manual rear end gearing etc). All I saw by guessing 2wd, quad, good rear end gearing was 2500lb payload. That means dry your fully loaded without passengers, hitch etc. If im wrong I apologize now but it looks like too much rv for your truck. Im not familiar with the add on's so Im guessing more for power?
