New Fifth Wheel

Me and my family have decided to live in an RV full time. We travel a lot and are rarely home due to work and visiting family and friends. We just have never RV before. It has always been something me and my wife were wanting to do when we retired and had been on our bucket list. We decided we wanted a fifth wheel and are looking at a Keystone Montana High Country 358bh due to a second bathroom, bunkhouse for the kids, and washer/dryer hook up. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this model or brand and how you liked it? Also, are there any recommendations for fifth wheels? We want a 2nd bath, bunkhouse that has two beds (not a sofa that converts into a bed), washer and dryer hook up, and good outdoor kitchen as we do grill a lot.

  • You might post this question on a forum that has many more families, like Fulltime Families on Facebook. They are living it
  • Full time living can be hard on a rig. You might want to look at a used higher end 5th wheel rated for full time living. The kids will adapt and you will make some great family memories. Good luck.
  • We have two young kids, but we do move every 18 months to 2.5 years due to my job. Moving our house that often is expensive, stressful for everyone, prevents us from settling anywhere, and is just a pain for the family. We also are always traveling between three to six hours on the weekends to go visit family because of family events (I have a big family and my wife is close with her extended family so there is always a wedding, birthday parties, and random family events) so I have a 200,000 dollar home that I barely use. I also travel for work around the SE a decent amount and take my personal vehicle when I travel so this is a way I can bring my family with me as well. Whenever I do get home, more time is spent taking care of a house rather than with my family. We believe that living in an RV will help us spend more time as a family and create some great memories for our children as well as save money for our children to be able to go to college without worrying about the same loans that we have to worry about. We have known a couple of families who live in RV full time and they absolutely love it and they spend a lot of family time together. We are going to homeschool our children regardless so schooling was never an issue for use We have done research on it very several months and isn't something that we are taking lightly and something both me and wife decided would be best for our family.
  • Our High Country has been OK. Had issues like all of them do.
My concern is you have never had a RV and have decided to live in one full time. Are the kids your kids or grandkids? I'm not here to make moral judgements but raising kids in a RV will be a challenge for all of you.
I think it would great if you could try living in a RV a little bit before you sell the house and jump in with both feet.
