New Sandpiper 365SAQ

Went and did the PDI this morning (COLD OUT) and only issue we found was the TV picture was hit or miss. They let me know that they have already contacted FR and have a new one on the way for me. This is it when I was dropping it off at the storage yard.

I went to the CAT scales directly from the dealer to get a good empty reading. The plackard on the side said it weighed 12,780lbs. I went across the scales and actual weight is 12,980 unloaded. Here are the 2 weight tickets I got:
Truck Only:

Truck and 5er:

After all of this I realize the following:
1. I am 640lbs over gross weight on my truck the way it sits.
2. Front axle has less than 200lbs until I hit my gross weight for it.
3. Rear axle has 784lbs of capacity left before it hits gross weight.
4. Pin weight right now is 2,140lbs if my math is correct.
5. A new(er) truck is in my future (I already knew this).
6. I am torn on what to do on the axles. Right now they have 10,840lbs on them and that leaves me 1160lbs of capacity on them. Assuming I had a full load of water, that would leave me with 700lbs of cargo capacity. I knew this was a possibility going in from all the reading here but had hoped for something crazy happening and mine be lighter than the others.

Anyway, at this point we are very excited. Hope to be out in a few weekends for a shakedown trip with it.

  • We loved the 365 SAQ but settled on 366FL as SRW F 350 would be close to weight limits and at the time the CCW was so low on the 365 due to the 6000lb axles. Best of luck with your 365 and your future truck hunt. Still wish we had the 365 tough.
  • Sorry Helmsey...I didn't realize I had already talked to you over there. Congrats on the rig and enjoy!!!
  • Are they 7k axles under the 365???? If you haven't by chance read this forum here FR Sandpiper Forum You will get an eye full. I go by 'Golfmedik" over on the Forest River Forum. You will see mine and Marc's issue with the 365. Do not get me wrong, we both love our units but you should read it. Also while over there, do a search in the Sandpiper and Sierra forums for '365" or '365SAQ' and read up. Very good units and the best floor plan on the market for those of us with kids. I will be glad to answer any questions you may have if you are inclined to ask. My camper loaded weighs 15,800 with extra air, genny and water and had a little over 137 pounds of payload left before I put in a single spoon in it. Now I have 7k axles and it pulls like a dream. I use a dually to pull mine with. However, lots of people do it 3/4 ton trucks and are very successful. It would be up to you. Congrats on the purchase and happy camping.
