Newbie Fifth Wheel Buyers...Need advice

We workcamp with no issues. We like to find the ones that will pay for all hours worked and then give a discount/free site. Pay is usually $8 or so hour and we will not work over 30 hrs a week each of us. This gives us plenty of time off to do what we want.

You can live as extreme or frugal as you like in this life style. Staying longer in one place helps keep rent low verses nightly or weekly. You will have to find out what works best for you. We love this lifestyle and would not trade it for anything. Enjoy your journey.

Don't forget that you'll need GOOD communication, net and phone. In many parks, Net can be a problem, from non-existent to painfully slow as to be worthless. Reliable comm can be =expensive=, so your current expenses for it can multiply. Also, if you're going to be carrying inventory (dog treats), that can weigh a lot and take up space. Having a garage-style toy hauler would allow your husband to use it for his detail space and kit. Remember, as he needs to replace supplies, he'll have to coordinate differing shipping locations. Same with your inventory.

Good advice. I would add that a big expense for your age might be health insurance. There are ways to stretch your income as well. Consider incorporating your business(es) so you can deduct a large part of your expenses. Workcamping (IMHO) is an area you want to be careful with. If you get a site for free in exchange for working at the campground, be sure to figure out what you would have paid for the camp spot and what you would have earned flipping burgers. I've seen quite a few work camp "opportunities" that were less than equitable.

In any case, burn up the net and you can find your answers.

You need to examine your what you send now to live. There are budget templates on the net that will help you. Your food budget should remain about the same. Lodging will depend on where you stay and for how long. Private park, state federal city parks boondocks or work camp. Fuel is one that many people forget about but can be a surprise. Write up a business plan go to a business counselor and see if what you want to do will work. If not it does not mean you can't go you just may have to rethink how to do it. Always have an exit plan if you need to get off the road for some reason. There are many blogs and web pages on the net that will give you info to help you proceed. You are correct that life is simpler and for us full timing is the way to go. But it is not for everyone.

Hey y'all! So sorry I didn't include much information in the first post.
My DH and I are in our 30's with 3 dogs. He owns a motorcycle detailing business and I own an all natural dog treat business. We were wanting to drive around the country to the different motorcycle events to provide detailing services. I can bake the dog treats on the road and ship them anywhere. We wanted to sell everything we have now except his truck and use the money to buy a 5th wheel and still have some left over to help us get through the first year of full timing.

Right now, we own our home, but still pay a mortgage. Our bills total approximately 2k a month. We're happy here, but we feel that a life on the road in an rv would be a simpler, more peaceful life.

We needed advice on approximately how much per month can we reasonably live on? Would our jobs be enough to sustain us, or should we be prepared to find work when we stay at campgrounds? I hear a lot about camp hosting, but I'm not sure what that is. We have looked through some websites but the amount of information is a little overwhelming.

What are some things you wish you would have known before you started rving? What are some common mistakes people make when they first start rving? What's the best part about your full time rv life? What would you change if you could?

Help us help you out. There are about a bazillion ways to earn a living on the road. What type of businesses do you have that can be run remotely? Do either of you have any particular skills that could be used while traveling. Many years ago, we attended a Life On Wheels conference and went to a seminar on just this subject and I feel that if you're willing to work, you're flexible, creative and willing, there are ways to make it work.

DW and I are testing the waters for Camp Hosting. We both still work full time, took a Host position for two weeks in May and Five weeks end of July and all of August this year.
I do IT work, and can work from anywhere I have a connection, DW worked grave yard shift. We loved it! Home was a 32' fiver. Still had a sticks and bricks, but never went there during this time.

I will add that we have camped when the kid were young, then took about a 10 year break. When we decided to try again, we bought a used unit that needed work (I am very handy). We got out often and decided we needed a little more room. Found the unit below, and paid cash for it, free and clear!

We never felt cramped during this time!!!

This was our Home Sweet Home for the four of us!

I can tell you have back-up plans (multiple). A significant number for folk that try full-timing discover it isn't for them. If they sold their house and/or other investments (that go up with time) to buy an RV that only decreases in value.....
