Newby needs advice

Except for a very small trailer your first mistake is choice of trucks. The ecodiesel 1500 is a nice truck, but towing capacity is under powered. Your going to be really disappointed with the size of any trailer that you can safely tow.
Two people living in a small trailer? This scenario does not make for a happy family situation.

I was going to say the same thing. Your not going to be comfortable having to have such a small trailer to live in because of the specs on the truck.

Do your shopping at the Hershey show - find a floorpan in a TT or 5ver that will work for the both of you in how you intend to use the trailer. From there, see what kind of automotive "muscle" you need to tow it, then get a capable tow vehicle. Welcome to the Forum!

Towing capacity is a mfg. marketing tool that is based on standard model with 150# driver and 20# cargo.

You will reach/exceed payload capacity LONG before reaching that magical tow rating.

Payload is amount of weight truck can safely carry.....that includes weight of all passengers, any stuff in truck cab, any stuff in bed of truck, weight of two hitch and the tongue weight of trailer (typically 15% of trailers camp ready weight)

7600# tow rating
15%----1140# tongue weight
2016 1500 with eco-diesel only have 1600# payload
That only leaves 460# for everything else.

Look at door sticker on truck and see what your truck payload (cargo capacity) is.
6000# GVWR trailer is about what you will probably need

Small and comfy.

A lot depends on your lifestyle going forward and what kind of lifestyle you can live with. Some folks aren't happy unless they have all the amenities and four slideouts, allowing the most room possible. Some folks would be happy in a tent but a trailer is easier to setup and move.

The fiberglass egg trailers like Casita, Scamp, etc. are light weight and very durable. They sell at somewhat of a premium. Airstream is also easily towable but the most $$$/ space contained.

There are, of course, other trailers available that are light weight and totally livable. I'm sure you'll see a thousand of these at the Hershey show.

If you plan to full-time during the Winter in the Northern states, you'll probably want to choose a trailer that is well insulated, having the appropriate tank heaters and such.

Payload on the truck is 1113, Towing is 7750. I was looking at something about 28 feet long with 1 pullout and a weight around GVWR about 6000. What is everyone saying, that is too small to live in?

By the way, the truck and the trailer I just described are what I can afford. I'm sure I'd be more comfortable with a Super Duty, but no money for that.

28 feet and a 6000 GVWR? Not practical nor reasonable. 6000 GVWR trailers generally are around 18-23 feet long even in a light weight trailer. Heck some tent trailers can weight that much. I suspect your either mis reading the brochures or are being misled by an unscrupulous salesman.
Most brochures now days do not list GVWR, only a dry weight which is unreasonable to consider. Again, your 1500 ecodiesel is a nice every day driver! And adequate for a small light weight trailer like a RPod. But a 28 foot slab sided trailer? NO WAY!
