Does the "needs weight distribution hitch" phrase apply to gooseneck hitches?
No it does not.
Do not listen to a dealer. He will tell you your truck can Carry/pull anything on his lot.
Look at your drivers door post weight tag and see what your cargo capacity is. That is how much weight you can CARRY in the truck. Including people, hitch, fuel, tools, spare tire, AND the 5er hitch weight (figure 20% of the fully loaded weight-NOT the dry weight of the trailer.
CAT scale is the truck scales at the truck stop. You pull on with front wheels on one plate and rear wheels on the next plate. Push the talk button and tell the person you are pickup privately owned. They will say OK and then you pull off the scale and go inside to pay for the scale ticket with your weight. It will show you the front and rear axle weights. You then compare them to your allowed axle weights to see if you can put more weight on the rear axle and how much more.
