We have some suped up tires. So: Tire: LT285/75R16 126/123Q 10 P.R.
Max Load:3750 lbs @ 80 psi on each tire.(I am trying to determine whether the max load on a tire means the PAIR of tires can carry 3750 or 7500. Any idea?)
As stated its per tire. Thats fine... as long as its over your axle weights. Two tires at 80 psi is 7500 lbs. My advice would be to keep max psi @ 80 when towing...
MORE: Front GAWR for the truck: 4100 lb.; Rear GAWR 6084 lb
You heard a few more comments on things here.. Bottom line is get the truck weights from the scale.. You can do all the math you want in your head but you and everyone else is guessing.. Fill the tank and load the truck with people and cargo for camping. Once you get those post back. Bassically subtract those #'s from your axle weights above..
That will tell you your pin weight..
I drove tractor trailers. I go by axle weights.
It's a 96 F250 4x4 Crew Cab HD gasoline truck.
The 96 crew cabs 4x4 only came with two motors. A 7.3 deisal or the 7.5 gasser. Both state 10,000 lbs as the tow limit. Can you tow more? Probably. What will dictate that are engine temps , transmission temps and the level of stopping power.. Oile cooler, trans cooler, and better brakes can solve those issues..
Based on this, my husband came up with this math:
With three adults in the cab, we add about 600 lb to the truck weight. Taking the generic 5600 lb truck, adding 600, we get 6200. Our total for the truck is 8800, which means we can put another 2600 pounds on the pin. Multiply that by 5 and you get 13,000 pounds as a general maximum for the trailer.
All assumption. we do not know what the truck weighs.. above math IMO is loaded with errors...
The 5er that we want to buy lists these specs:
The empty weight is 8,792. The GVWR is listed as 11,450 with Load Range D tires; there are Range E tires on it now.
Now... what can ya tell me?
It dont matter too much what it weighs as stated per se' Its the pin weight and what payload you have left on the truck so you are within your axle limits...
