Actually .....as I posted I bought a smaller TV than he has for a larger trailer, and was very happy with my *real world* results.
Tow ratings on SUVs in North America, and for that matter many cars, are more marketing than engineering. In this case using what is available and known is a very reasonable starting point. In the end they have to decide for themselves of course, and they will know after a couple of runs if this will work to their satisfaction. If it doesn't then they can dig deep for more, but why rush out to waste money is the way I would look at it.
