You'll just need to buy a bigger tow vehicle listen to all of the above suggestions we have all been there as well.
Actually .....as I posted I bought a smaller TV than he has for a larger trailer, and was very happy with my *real world* results.
Tow ratings on SUVs in North America, and for that matter many cars, are more marketing than engineering. In this case using what is available and known is a very reasonable starting point. In the end they have to decide for themselves of course, and they will know after a couple of runs if this will work to their satisfaction. If it doesn't then they can dig deep for more, but why rush out to waste money is the way I would look at it.
If you want to talk "real world" results, I towed a 20' enclosed trailer with my 2008 Tahoe with the 5.3. That turd of a TV couldn't hold OD on flat ground on the highway. Put a couple of bikes in it (literally, 2 street bikes) and that was about all she could muster. Empty trailer weight was probably ~3,300lbs.
Got 6 MPG towing it. Went to a 3/4 diesel Dodge, got 14 MPG towing the trailer and literally didn't know it was hooked up.
A 4.6 Expedition towing a 20' toy hauler, which 'empty' (no toys, but loaded with camping gear and whatnot) will weigh roughly 6-7,000lbs?
I don't understand how you can't afford to replace the vehicle, but you can afford the toy hauler?
There are a lot of people on here that think you need a 1 ton dually to tow a 5x8 utility trailer. I can tell you that I am not one of them, and am also telling you that your TV isn't enough truck for a 20-23' toy hauler.
You say you keep up on your fluid maintenance on the truck, yet you've never changed the differential fluid?
So many holes in this plan, I don't even know where to begin.
