Ok, an even more basic question:
Pricing varies widely on the same models from dealer to dealer, with the high volume dealers being literally 10s of thousands of dollars cheaper for the same rig vs smaller dealers. Unless you're fortunate enough to live close to a high volume dealer, how do you get your small local one to be price competitive so you can have a one stop shopping and warranty experience with them?
And then it seems that some models are just plain not available in geographic regions. Grand Designs and KZ are scarcer than hen fingers around these parts. Do people buy sight unseen and then pay to have them trucked in?
My hybrid trailer experience was a much less risky proposition when it comes to the complexity and cost of a FW. I didn't buy local to save a few thou, and when I thought I actually had a warranty issue, the local Forest River dealer was less than accommodating and scheduled me months out. Luckily the problem fixed itself. I can't imagine a FW purchase like that would be any different.
Just remember the price isn't REALLY the price until you wheel and deal. We have never bought anything based on service as I fix everything myself by choice. So we have shopped everywhere once we find the model and then use the cheapest price to negotiate. Some dealers advertise MSRP but will deal at thousands less than that when you actually sit down to deal. Especially when you can prove to them that someone else has same model for less. We have saved 10k on both last trlrs using this theory.
Also, as mentioned earlier unless you HAVE TO HAVE this years model you are much better off dealing on dealer inventory than factory order. They always want to move inventory not just push paper.
